I meet Trent at the front of the hotel, and my heart lifts just from seeing his face.

“Little muse,” he greets, pushing away from his motorbike which he’s been leaning against. Prowling like a cat, he moves over to me, wraps his arms around my waist, and holds me to him. “I missed you.” Resting his cheek against the top of my head, he inhales deeply, like he’s trying to memorise my scent.

“I missed you too,” I murmur against his chest, not wanting to let go. However, nerves twist in my gut, and I know I can’t put this off. Releasing my hold on his shirt, I lean back so I can see his face. “Did you mean it when you said you didn’t mind me seeing someone else?” I just blurt it out and then cringe as I say it, realising how awful it sounds. There were so many better ways I could have phrased that, and instead, it sounds like I want to sleep around, which is not what any of this is about.

Thankfully, he seems to understand that and chuckles at my expression. “Well, I’m not exactly thrilled at the idea, but I’m not about to lose you. You mean too much to me.”

I feel giddy. This can’t be happening, but instead of looking a gift horse in the mouth, I take his hands in mine and smile hopefully. “In that case, I want you to meet someone.”

I’m surprised at my boldness. I never would have been like this before, but I hope that doesn’t show on my face.

His trepidation is clear. “Right now?”

I suppose knowing about someone else and actually meeting them is something different altogether, and it makes it more real. However, if Daniel wants to take things further, and it sounds like Trent does too, then they need to meet.

“He’s going to meet us at the restaurant after dinner,” I reassure him, squeezing his hand. My nerves are making me feel sick, my palms sweaty, but I hold strong, waiting for his answer. “He’s important to me.”

Blowing out a long breath, he gives me a slow half-smile. “Then let’s do this.”
